He has a Masters Degree in Optics and a BS in Physics. Mr. Coblitz began his career as a holographer (3D photography with lasers), and he has published numerous papers in a wide array of subjects. After switching to visual systems engineering & management and completing a long and successful career in that field, he retired & took up Photographic art as a second career. His first gallery showing was a one man show in Feb 2006 at Stage Left in O'Fallon, MO. He was a finalist in the betterphoto.com contest in May 2006 (in the top 855 of 26,200 submitted). He has two shots that were finalists in the Irving Schankman Contest, "St. Louis Through the Lens" shown at UMSL's Gallery 210. He has 3 shots that were accepted in the worldwide Trierenberg Super Circuit as well as an acceptance for exhibit at the Photographic Society of America's international exhibition at Tucson, AZ in 2007. His work has been seen in St. Louis at Studio Altius as part of their SEEN 2007 exhibition 7Dec07-8Jan08 in which he took 1st place in the advertising category and again there for the Maplewood, MO "Let them eat art" festival. He won both 2nd place and an honorable mention for two of his photos in the "Visions of Judaism" photo contest run by the St. Louis Jewish Light newspaper. These were displayed at Plaza Frontenac from 16-23 May 2008. He has also participated in juried exhibits at Soulard Art Market, Art Dimensions gallery, and the St. Louis Artists' Guild. His work was selected to be part of the inaugural group show on 17 Sept, 2008 of "Crepes in the City/Art in the City", where Carol Shapiro is gallery director. This is the hottest new eating and art viewing establishment in St. Louis! He will have a one man show there opening December 10, 2008. He also is showing in the photography show put on by the St. Louis Artists' Guild at the new Brentwood Gallery located at 2119 S. Brentwood, on the West side just south of HWY 64 in Brentwood, MO. His work is represented by Arch Framing, Art-Biz Gallery, and Art Trends Gallery. He has had his photos published in the New York Times on line edition, Taste of St. Louis, and QUEST magazines as well as the St. Louis Jewish Light, and the Missouri Women in Trades calendar. He has taught photography for YTEC/ArtDimensions. His overall approach is the same as when he was a research/product development engineer for Boeing. Then, he would let the problem guide him to the solution approach rather than starting with a preconceived tool kit & applying it. Much the same way, he treats each photograph from the standpoint of doing what it appears the subject/shot needs to best represent it. He frequently makes photos that are mistaken for paintings. His photos rarely evoke the reaction, "I've got a camera; I could do that". Mr. Coblitz is listed in Who's Who under both Engineering Consulting and Photography.Find a Photographer for your wedding or special event
